Artist's Talk Announcement / by Helena Hernmarck

Helena was honored to give an online presentation as part of the Contemporary Voices series at The George Washington University Textile Museum on March 27, 2025. Helena traced her artistic lineages and shared the personal explorations that informed her contributions to The Textile Museum’s 2012 exhibition, Sourcing the Museum, as well as to philanthropist Lloyd Cotsen’s Box Project: Uncommon Threads. Helena also shared stories about her friendship with curator Mary Kahlenberg, a longtime friend of The Textile Museum who worked closely with Lloyd Cotsen to assemble his impressive textile collection, part of which now forms the Textile Museum’s Cotsen Textile Traces Study Center. Below is a tapestry Helena wove for Sourcing the Museum, which relates to an Egyptian carpet fragment from circa 900 CE in the Textile Museum collection and which Helena titled in honor of Kahlenberg.
